Out with the old and in with the new!

The holidays are over. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or any other winter holiday of the sort, it is now behind us. As the new year approaches we welcome the time to look back at the past year and ahead at the fresh, new year for the blank page that it is.

First, my Christmas was very nice. Thank you for asking. I hope that your holiday celebration was just as nice. I hope that your family did not drive you any more crazy than normal, that you got everything you asked for and that you truly celebrated the real meaning of the season…….eating and drinking. Nary a Christmas has gone by since I reached drinking age that I was without a bourbon slush in my hand in the evening and a bloody mary in the morning! (I do jest and I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season!)

Before we look at the year that is to come, I find it only fitting to look back at the year that we just passed. We lost a lot this year. I am sure I need not remind you of the countless celebrities that we lost as well as the many outstanding musicians. We also lost a friend and supporter of live music earlier this year. Brandy will always be in our thoughts. Everyone deals with loss in their own way and the musicians that grace the stage at After Dark dealt with the passing of so many talents by doing what they do best, paying tribute through the music.

I do not want to dwell on the sadness and loss that was abundant this year, especially when there was so much silliness and good times that took place this year as well! There were parties, shenanigans and good times a plenty this past year. Let us take a brief walk down memory lane!

tit-face swapSaramarie was coerced into streaking during a Voodoo Shilton show. We are forever grateful to the one who did the coercing and to Derek, Sara’s manager, who provided the most wonderful photo ever!

After Dark was nominated, more than once for an Avi Choice award!

Ty handed out her second annual Ty’s Choice Awards

Shanny Joined the brood, much to the surprise of many regulars and musicians who thought she already worked at After Dark!AfterDarkFamilyPortrait

Meegan and Tyche jammed Minnesota style!

Oblee showed up more than once as a non puppet avi. Much to Ty’s dismay.

We had, at least in this bloggers opinion, the most unique and interesting griefing the night that the floor kept sliding.

Loads of new musicians rocked the stage, along with long standing regulars and those we hadn’t heard in a while!

And those are just a few of the highlights! There were endless conversations that out of context would completely boggle the mind. There were millions of dances as a result of millions of taps to Meegan’s behind. There were IMs of every type imaginable, and occasionally there were IMs accidentally typed in local, which then lead to more mind boggling conversations!

Thank you to everyone, the musicians, fans, regulars, people who randomly found After Dark in search and those who have no idea how they ended up there but had a good time anyway! Without all of you After Dark would be nothing! Join us as we embrace the newness of 2017 and make it one hell of a year!

I leave you with a picture that sums up just how awesome After Dark is. This picture was taken on September 28th. This was not a Halloween party, or October 28th when one might expect to see this kind of thing. No, this was just another night at After Dark.

It’s the thought that counts!

we-hold-these-truths-to-be-self-evident-cover-620x350There are some very obvious truths in the world. Things that cannot be denied. You don’t have to have money to be happy. You don’t have to have a great voice to sing in the shower. You don’t have to be rich to be my girl. You don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude. Just leave it all………and there I go getting off track. The point I am trying to get is that you don’t have to win the top prize to know that you are doing a good job, or to write an acceptance speech. Especially when you write for a blog!

Before the absolute silliness commences, I need to get serious. Everyone at After Dark would like to congratulate all of the nominees and  winners of the Avi Choice Awards. In case you missed the results, we didn’t take home any trophies, but we did make it to the finals for Favorite Live Venue! Thank you so much to everyone who voted and to all of our musicians and regulars that are just such damn amazing people. All of you  put us in the top 5 in a sea of amazing nominees! That alone proves how many awesome people come to After Dark Lounge!

Ok, now for the silliness!

Had After Dark Lounge won for favorite Live music venue, I would like to think that it would have gone down a little like this.

MC: “And the Avi Choice Award goes to…….After Dark Lounge!  *massive applause* After Dark Lounge is not able to join us this evening because, well, it is a building and does not get around too often. Thankfully, through the magic of modern technology we have After Dark via Skype to accept the award”

*camera pans to gigantic screen above the presenters. After Dark Lounge comes into view. A booming voice is heard*

“It is a pleasure and an honor to be receiving such a prestigious award. There are so many to thank, I do not even know where to begin! I supposed I should start with Meegan Danitz. Meegan, you are the platform beneath my structure. I would be nothing were it not for you and your love of live music and your commitment to the live music scene in Secondlife. When I was just a tiny prim I dreamed of greatness, but never did I know to what a level that greatness would reach. I am forever in debt to you Meegan and I hope I am not relegated to the deep dark recesses of your inventory anytime soon.

Next I need to think TheaDee for making me gorgeous. You gave me my first “look” and you keep me hip, hot and current. You are a miracle worker and without you I would be nothing more than an empty brick square.

Speaking of making me look pretty, LadyGlory…… You get me all dolled up for theme nights and let me pretend I am a different building for a short while. Also to LG and Portia, Dark, and Shanny, you all make people love me. You make them feel welcome from the second they land on my gorgeous hardwood floors. You make them want to come see me.

And to those regulars and all of the many musicians……It is a pleasure to have you all inside of me. I have had more musicians inside me than The Madison Square Garden and I love it.  I know that sometimes it can get a little tight inside, but those are the nights I love the most. Knowing that people are ass to elbow inside of me and enjoying the hell out of themselves make me feel completely full, not just in my cavernous space but also in my heart.

There have been times when I was scared. When I thought the music was gone and never coming back. *Cue rain and gentle sniffles* When Meegs got sick…..every year during Burn……when Meegs work was being a total douchebag…….The music always came back though, and the fans returned and my purpose as a venue was once again fulfilled.

Tyche….how could I forget Tyche? You were unexpected, loud, bossy and boisterous. For shit’s sake, you write about me damn near every week. I can admit when I am wrong and filing that restraining order against you was stupid of me and having it repealed was one of the smartest things I ever did.

Last but not least I would like to thank the higher beings…..the Lindens. Your world lets me be me. Hell, it lets me be, period! This one is for you!

Thank you all! After Dark OUT! *drops the mic*

NSFRC (Not suitable for red carpet)

The Avi Choice awards are being handed out this Sunday at 1pm SLT. I am positive that my readers are sick and damn tired of all of the Avi Choice Awards talk. First I harp to get you to nominate, then I get on your butts about voting for the awards and now I STILL want to talk about them?!?! Yep, and I am going to. That is the beauty of writing, I get to write whatever the heck I want!

Though there are a lot of nominees among the After Dark Lounge crew, none of us will be attending the awards themselves. Some have conflicting things going on, some just don’t have a thing to wear and one, who will not be named is banned for life.*

There was discussion of having an award show listening party, but as per usual there was so much arguing that the whole idea was thrown out the window. Dark can’t have dairy, and Shanny insists on having queso and cheese sticks. Portia is embarrassed to be around people when she listens to award shows. I would be too if I screamed the kind of obscenities she screams when her favorite does not win. LG and Meegan were going to wear the same dress, neither would budge and that led to a “Yea, well my ass looks better than yours” kind of argument that resulted in tears. My tears, because listening to those two argue is enough to make you crazy! As for me, well, seems no one wants to come hang out with the only sane one of the damn group.

The look I will be going for Sunday afternoon. minus the baking whatnot and plus booze!

Long story short, I have no idea what the rest of the After Dark Lounge crew will be doing when the Avi Choice Awards are handed out, but I know what I will be doing! I will be sitting in my living room, in my comfy fleece pants (Sunday is a comfy pant day after all). a football jersey (Umm….Sunday!), fuzzy slippers (it is winter and cold here!) and a tiara. Why the tiara? Jeez people! I t is an award show! I want to feel a little fancy! So anyway, I will be all geared up, vodka and OJ close at hand, my ear glued to the broadcast, while the football game is on in the background. Hey, I love awards shows but I also love my football!

No matter who wins, it is really an honor to be nominated. Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations and voted. I hope that on award day your pants are comfy and your favorites bring home the prize! So pinkies up, cupcakes! It is time to get your fancy on!

♥ Tyche

*Not really, but if anyone was, let’s be honest, it would be Meegan

This is your last call……Please do not panic! It is not the last call for alcohol, we are not about to turn the lights on in the club! This is the last call to vote for the FINAL Avi Choice awards! Final……last…..not gonna ever happen again! That is, unless It goes the way of many a farewell tour and then a year or so later comes the reunion. But! As far as anyone can tell, this will be the last time that you get to let the people of SL who pay attention to such things just what persons, places and things you love!

For the record, I am one of those people. I always have been and always will be an award show junkie. You all have no idea! Oscar night is one of my favorite nights of the year. The Avi Choice awards are The Oscar night of SL. Technically they are more like the People’s Choice Awards since they are not decided by a group of nameless and faceless academy members. They are chosen by people like you and me! That assumes you take the time to vote. No pressure……..it is your business if you do not want your voice heard….whatever……..

I WILL BE HEARD!!! I voted. you are damn right I did. If there is one thing that is seriously obvious to those who know me, it is that I am VERY opinionated. Have mercy, I can get downright fired up over things that I am passionate about and music and my love of the SL music scene happens to be one of those things. If you do not vote then you cannot celebrate when someone you dig wins and on the flip side you cannot piss and moan when someone you are rather “meh” about does win. If nothing else, vote so that you can be elated or bitter!

The totally non-official “I voted” sticker!

You will hear nothing about this from me again. This is the last time I will bother you with details of this. Mostly because voting ends on the 28th at 5pm, but also because I know that force feeding people stuff makes it not taste so good. Remember, there are several of the After Dark family nominated and also many members of the Idle Rogue family. Vote as you wish, pick a winner and then you can rejoice or piss and moan all you want when the results are announced! Once again, here are the handy-dandy links to the voting!

TheArts                                                                                                                        SLife

As a side note, and something that I am sure you have all been wondering about, I am unsure if there will be a final Ty’s Choice Awards. I know, I know…..it is kind of heartbreaking, but the lineup at After Dark has evolved so much in the last several months that the list of arbitrary awards I would have to come up with would be INSANE! I might cook up something, you never know…..

♥ Ty

Your Vote Counts!

I am not going to get political. If I can manage to bite my tongue on social media sites and inworld then I sure as hell can do the same here. Plus, I am sure everyone if as over politics as I am right now. It is becoming like Christmas! Christmas season used to begin after Thanksgiving and how it starts the day after July 4th in some places! Election season used to really ramp up in the year of the presidential election and how it seems to start the day after inauguration! Nope! I am not going to get political….well…..maybe just a little……

*Drags out her soapbox, stands atop it and waits for the rowdy ones of the group to calm dow!*

I will not get political in the sense that one might think. I will not rejoice, lament, nay-say or smack talk. There are those that win and those that lose and no one choice will ever make anyone happy. I just want to say this: I sure as heck hope that you voted! You can “Hooray!” or “Whaaaaa!” all you want (but not here please, come on, you know better!), but only if you voted. That is all I am going to say on the presidential election!

I know that you are probably asking yourself “Self, what the hell is Tyche doing rambling on about politics? Isn’t this blog supposed to be about the live music scene in SL and the venue After Dark?” Yes it is, and this political talk does relate to the point that I am eventually going to get to!

i-votedThose of you that did not vote in the presidential election still have a change to make your voice heard! Obviously not in the election, but in the Avi Choice Awards! Some claim that voting it a hassle, takes too much time, or is like choosing the lesser of two evils. Well, guess what?!? When you vote for the Avi Choice Awards there is no hassle, and it takes very little time, just some clicks! And……AND….if there is a category where you do not find any of the nominees to be worthy, you just skip it! Hell, I am even going to include an image of an “I Voted” sticker that you can feel free to print off and wear at your will….but you better vote first, dammit!rainbow-vote

Remember, we love you all, but we love those that vote just a little bit more! There are lots of names that you know and love from After Dark that are nominated and each would appreciate your vote if you choose to give it to them. Want to vote for someone else? Go for it! JUST VOTE DAMMIT!  convenience is one of the keys to get people to do things, so here are the links to vote!

Click HERE to vote for The Arts!                                                                                    Click HERE To vote for SLife!

Voting ends November 28th, but if you are anything like me you should probably vote now so you don’t forget!

A lesson in patience…….aka Tyche waits for the Avi Choice Award nominations to be announced!

The Bloggess Bitch is BACK!!

waiting-sucksRemember a few weeks ago when I took it upon myself to talk your gentle little hands and walk you through the process of nominating for the Avi Choice Awards? Whelp, I was hoping to be sitting here this evening writing a thank you to all of those who voted and being super stoked that we received nominations. But…………(extra long dramatic pause)………..THE NOMS ARE NOT UP YET!  So instead I will be pissing and moaning about that. Sure, they said they will be listed on the 3rd of November, no later than midnight and it is only 9pm but COME ON!! They obviously have no idea how impatient I am. What? It is not all about me and what I need to keep me happy? Well fine then!

*runs to see if the noms are up yet….nothing*

patienceIn all seriousness though, whether we receive nominations of not, I want to thank everyone who took the time to nominate. It was not a difficult process, but it was a little time-consuming and to those who took that time, you rock and we love you just a teensy bit more than those who did not. We do love all of you, but you know damn well that everyone has their favorites!

*runs to see if the noms are up yet……still nothing*

There they are! WOOHOO!!

squee After Dark is nominated for Favorite Live Music Venue!!! Holy crap on a cracker! Oh! Oh! Oh! But there is more…this fine piece of journalistic wonder that you are reading and the website that is rests its fine words on is nominated for Favorite Blog or Website, Overall! Sweet sassy molassey! Yours truly was also nominated for Favorite Blogger, overall. I am humbled as fu……..fudge by this! Woah! And this just in! I am literally typing this as the info is coming in to me from my close sources, both Shanny and LadyGlory have received nominations for Favorite Club or Venue Host or Hostess!  Paint me green and call me Gumby! You will not believe the number of amazing musicians that have graced After Dark’s stage that are nominated!

I could play it all cool and preach about how awards are popularity contests and blah, blah, blah, but this is really freaking exciting! To have so many aspects of After Dark Lounge nominated is giving me the warm fuzzies. Yes, it is a popularity contest, but it is one voted on by the people of Second Life and a person or place does not get popular by half-assing things. Being recognized for the hard work that goes into it all is pretty dang amazing! Shut the front door!

Once again, another big THANK YOU to those who took the time to nominate!

Now it is time to vote! I know, I know, you thought your part was done and you could just sit back and relax and watch the whole thing play out, but once again it is time to make your voice heard! Again I will make it easy for you. Click HERE to vote for The Arts and HERE to vote for SLife. The rest is easy peasy!

It’s Avi Choice Nomination Time!!!

The Avi Choice Awards will be putting on one final show before they retire their legacy. I have voted for the awards many a time but never had I nominated until this round. It gave me a bit of a feeling of supremacy. My opinion was mattering, if to no one else than to the person who tallies the nominations! Do you want the same feeling of grandeur? Do you want your voice to matter in a voting process that you can do from the comfort of your own home? Go you want to say “Yes, I totally nominated them for that award.” when someone you nominates wins?? I know you do!! Let me walk you through the process and you can be on your way to feeling like someone special!*

Step 1: Cut a hole in the box……..WAIT, wait wait! Wrong steps! Let’s try this again!

Step 1: Go to the Avi Choice Awards website.

Step 2: Pick a category of awards that you want to nominate for. There is SLife, The Arts, and Fashion

Step 3: Enter your avi’s name. You have to do this so they know who the important people are!

Step 4: Nominate your little heart out! You do not have to nominate for every award that is listed.

Boom! Easy as pie……Oh….not so easy? Well, let me just walk you right through how step 4 plays out. It might seem super easy to some of you, but to be completely honest, it took me a minute, and that is what inspired me to write this!

So, say you want to nominate, oh……I don’t know…..a blogger. You would find the “Favorite Second Life Blogger” entry, which happens to be listed under SLife, and type in the name of the blogger you wish to nominate. But what! There’s more! Then you need to go to my.secondlife.com and search that blogger, find them in the list and click them, then click Profile. You then copy and paste the web address of their information page in after the bloggers name and viola! Well, you finish doing the same for other categories you wish to nominate under, then click SUBMIT and then, VIOLA! You have just made your nomination known! You are kind of a big deal now. Just saying!

“But Tyche, what if I want to nominate a venue? Venues don’t have SL information pages like avis do!” Calm your pants! I’m getting there! So, to nominate a venue in a category of, say Favorite Live Music Venue, go to The Arts and find the “Favorite Live Music Venue” entry. You will need to enter 3 things on this line. 1. The name of the venue 2. The name of the venue owner. (If you do not know this you can usually find it by searching the venue and viewing the venues information or the venue’s group info. I find the group info to be more useful. The founder of the group is almost always the owner.) 3. The link to the owner’s information page from my.secondlife.com. BOOM! You are now a nominating pro! Run and tell your friends how amazing you are and let them know that they can be just as cool!

Do this before noon on October 12th and you, yes you, will have your voice heard!

♥ Ty

The Twin Cities jam has come and gone and the After Dark Lounge crew was there to represent! Meegan and Tyche rolled up in to that mother like a couple of bosses! You know, the kind of bosses that get stranded at the liquor store, in the pouring rain, with a box of booze and not a single damn cup…..yep…..BOSSES!

Now, as anyone who has attended a jam will tell you, most of what happens at a jam stays at the jam, and with good reason! Well, several reasons actually, but the main reason, at least from this bloggers end, is that lots of the jam is kind of a blur. A massive blur of cocktails, hugs, amazing music, new friends and old. Legit, if you are a fan of the SL music scene and you have never been to a jam you owe it to yourself to get to one, It is an experience unlike anything else and it is nothing short of amazing.

The level of talent that was representing at this jam was insane. Completely and utterly INSANE! Bonkers I tell you! It was so amazing to get to meet and listen to so many fantastic musicians! Since I am sure that you are all avid readers of the blog, you are well aware that there were a few musicans present who are on regular rotation at After Dark. Grif Bamaisin, Lyndon Heart, Max Kleen and Voodoo Shilton…..all live in the flesh and offering great hugs and even better music! Rather than blather on and on I will share a few pics from the amazing time that was had!

Was the jam held at Linden Labs? OMG!!

Alotta Fagina and Sir Cocks a Lot……Yes, it was that kind of party!

The reenactment of the Gimme a Break Photo….minus a Meegan.

There are not a lot of pictures from the jam…..because WHAT HAPPENS AT THE JAM STAYS AT THE JAM! Everything except Jambola, which both Meegan and Ty managed to contract.

One last thing that is not at all jam related. They are doing one final Avi Choice Awards at the end of the year. Nominations are being accepted right now. Make sure you take a few minutes and submit your nominations! It only takes a few minutes! https://avichoiceawards.com/   <=====Right there! DOO EEEET!

It is an honor just to be nominated…..

……but it would be total kick ass to win!

Unfortunately, this award is not one of the Avi Choice award categories!

The crew at After Dark is honored and humbled to announce that the club has received not one, but TWO nominations for the Avi Choice Awards! Not only that, but our amazing owner, her royal fierceness, Miss Meegan Danitz has been nominated as well!

After Dark is nominated for Favorite Stage or Theater Set Design, because, let’s face it, the place is gorgeous, warm, inviting and the perfect setting for spending an evening listening to your favorite live music! The venue is also up for Favorite Venue, Sr (in operation more than a year). Are they calling After Dark old? Heck yes it has been around (Not “around the block”, c’mon people! This is serious biness!) and in a place where live venues come and go it really is a great honor to be among those that have stood the test of time!

The lovely and talented Miss Meegan Danitz is nominated for Favorite Dance Choreographer. She very modestly claims that she does not belong in that category, but if you have ever seen her perform on the stage, you know that she most definitely does!

We are also pleased to announce that several of our regular performers have been nominated as well!

Max Kleene: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Male Performer

Sassy Nitely: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Female Performer

Vinnie (Acoustic Rhapsody): Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Original Songs Artist, Favorite Instrumentalist

Joel Eilde: Favorite Rock Singer

Voodoo Shilton: Favorite Jazz Artist/Musician, Favorite Instrumentalist, Favorite Instruments or Performance Equipment Builder

SaraMarie Philly: Favorite Singer in Standards, Classical or Ballads

Twinghost Ronas: Favorite Original Songs Artist

Congratulations to you all and we wish you the best of luck!

votenowA million thanks to those who took the time to nominate! Now, one last thing………. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

There are a lot of great nominees in a lot of great categories and it only take a few clicks to cast you vote!
