The holidays are over. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or any other winter holiday of the sort, it is now behind us. As the new year approaches we welcome the time to look back at the past year and ahead at the fresh, new year for the blank page that it is.
First, my Christmas was very nice. Thank you for asking. I hope that your holiday celebration was just as nice. I hope that your family did not drive you any more crazy than normal, that you got everything you asked for and that you truly celebrated the real meaning of the season…….eating and drinking. Nary a Christmas has gone by since I reached drinking age that I was without a bourbon slush in my hand in the evening and a bloody mary in the morning! (I do jest and I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season!)
Before we look at the year that is to come, I find it only fitting to look back at the year that we just passed. We lost a lot this year. I am sure I need not remind you of the countless celebrities that we lost as well as the many outstanding musicians. We also lost a friend and supporter of live music earlier this year. Brandy will always be in our thoughts. Everyone deals with loss in their own way and the musicians that grace the stage at After Dark dealt with the passing of so many talents by doing what they do best, paying tribute through the music.
I do not want to dwell on the sadness and loss that was abundant this year, especially when there was so much silliness and good times that took place this year as well! There were parties, shenanigans and good times a plenty this past year. Let us take a brief walk down memory lane!
Saramarie was coerced into streaking during a Voodoo Shilton show. We are forever grateful to the one who did the coercing and to Derek, Sara’s manager, who provided the most wonderful photo ever!
After Dark was nominated, more than once for an Avi Choice award!
Ty handed out her second annual Ty’s Choice Awards
Shanny Joined the brood, much to the surprise of many regulars and musicians who thought she already worked at After Dark!
Meegan and Tyche jammed Minnesota style!
Oblee showed up more than once as a non puppet avi. Much to Ty’s dismay.
We had, at least in this bloggers opinion, the most unique and interesting griefing the night that the floor kept sliding.
Loads of new musicians rocked the stage, along with long standing regulars and those we hadn’t heard in a while!
And those are just a few of the highlights! There were endless conversations that out of context would completely boggle the mind. There were millions of dances as a result of millions of taps to Meegan’s behind. There were IMs of every type imaginable, and occasionally there were IMs accidentally typed in local, which then lead to more mind boggling conversations!
Thank you to everyone, the musicians, fans, regulars, people who randomly found After Dark in search and those who have no idea how they ended up there but had a good time anyway! Without all of you After Dark would be nothing! Join us as we embrace the newness of 2017 and make it one hell of a year!
I leave you with a picture that sums up just how awesome After Dark is. This picture was taken on September 28th. This was not a Halloween party, or October 28th when one might expect to see this kind of thing. No, this was just another night at After Dark.
