Our Fearless Leader

I spend a lot of time being downright silly on this blog. I also spend a lot of time tooting the hell out of my own horn. Both are fun and that is why I do them. Every once in a while things need to get serious though. Fear not! There will be no lecturing or preaching. The Tyche Szondi soap-box is out away neatly under the bed, with the dust bunnies and the random odd sock. Things are about to get serious in the best way possible and you are going to like it!

Meegan Danitz

You probably know her as the “hello” that greets you when you land at After Dark. The backside that you slap to get your pixels shaking. The woman that kisses, hugs, spanks and on occasion snugglehumps as a thank you for tips to the venue. She is all of those things but she is also so much more! There are so many facets to this woman that if I did now know her personally I would think those pixels were made up of more than one person.

Owning a venue probably seems pretty glamorous, and it certainly is at times. Getting to see your club that you work so hard for full of people enjoying themselves and grooving along with you to music you love is an amazing thing. But there is a lot of hard work that goes into it and that hard work is often overlooked and rarely applauded. Meegan deserves to be applauded and I know damn well she will not toot her own horn so I am going to do it for her!

One of the most difficult and rewarding things that Meegan deal with as a live music venue owner is musicians. Have you ever heard the phrase “Working with musicians is like herding cats”? There is so much truth in that statement! While that is true, they are also the reason that Meegan does what she does. They are the love that makes her put so much labor into running a fantastic club. Meegan works tirelessly at putting together After Dark’s schedule of musicians, finding places to showcase new talent on the grid, filling last minute cancellations, dealing with any issues that may arise, be they personal or business.

Then there is that motely crew of a staff that she has to wrangle! Being part of that crew, I can attest to the fact that while we are a damn amazing group of people, we are not free of our “princess moments”. To be completely honest, it is very hard for me to be objective on this being one of the crew, and I cannot speak for the rest of the staff, but I know that I am not always the easiest person to work with and Meegan has had to talk me down from a ledge over silliness more than once!

Then there are the million of little things that Meegan deals with while hosting shows. Complaints from patrons, sometimes legitimate, other times things that are not within Meegan’s control. Either way, she deals with them with grace. Her goal is for people to have a great time while at After Dark and she will do anything that she is able to (within reason…don’t get carried away!) to ensure that it happens. In an evening of live music she is likely to field a load of IMs from patrons, questions, complaints, people looking for bookings, people just wanting to chit chat. And she fields all of those IMs while greeting every person that lands at After Dark, thanking for every tip and enjoying the heck out of herself!

After Dark is not the only passion that Meegan indulges in while in SL. (Minds…gutter…you know the drill! Stop it!) She dances for Guerilla Burlesque as a soloist and she has acted as a director for the troupe at times. This is a damned involved process. The soloist has to choose a song, develop a concept, build a set and choreograph a dance. It consumes a huge amount of time and in the end she has 3-5 minutes on stage in which she blows away the audience. Much like owning a venue, it is very much a labor of love and one that Meegan has a distinct talent for.

I would also like to point out that Meegan does all of the above while balancing her RL along the way. She takes care of her family, works an (often more than) full time job, and still finds time to do the things that she loves in SL. She is a owner, a friend, a therapist, a warden, a dancer and most importantly a damn good time. TOOT TOOT TOOT!!! Hear that? I am tooting the hell out of her horn, because she deserves it!

You want to know the best part of this post? Meegan has no idea what I am writing this week. I normally let her know, at least give her an overview, but I didn’t this time. She probably would have told me not to write this. She is too damn modest and I am not going to take that crap anymore! If your friends cannot give you a hearty pat on the back then who the hell can? Am I right?

In closing, Meegs, you are so loved and your hard work does not go unnoticed!

They’re Baaaaack!

You might have noticed that the stage at After Dark was very quiet this week. At least we hope that you noticed! After Dark was extra dark this week because Meegan and Tyche were tearing it up at BURN2, Guerilla Burlesque style!

It was wonderful to see many of our After Dark regulars out and about on the playa, enjoying everything that BURN2 has to offer, and especially at the shows that we were performing in! If you did not get a chance to make it to BURN2 this year, you owe it to your self to make it next year. It is unlike anything else in Secondlife and it definitely needs to be experienced first hand as pictures and retellings do not do it justice! Speaking of pictures, perhaps you would enjoy seeing some of what Meegan and Ty were up to.

The photographer for After Dark’s blog failed pretty miserably at getting pictures of the live performers, but in her defense she did have a LOT on her plate this past week. Cut her some slack! After Dark regulars Voodoo Shilton, Funkyfreddy Republic, Saramarie Philly and Twinghost Ronas all gifted their music to BURN2…….yet the only picture that slacker photog managed to get was this one! TGBURN_005In addition to the live music and the stage shows there were tons of other events that took place at Roguery Camp. Interactive dance sessions, themed parties that included Tutu Tuesday and Corsets and Cigars and loads of other good times! Just a few more pics of the good times for those who missed it. Not to rub it in or anything, but yea, it was awesome!

So that is where the week went and why the stage at After Dark was silent, aside from a third of a Saramarie Philly set when they decided to restart the sim! But like the title says “They’re baaaaack!”. And what do you think of when you hear that? It had better be Poltergeist! Halloween is right around the corner and we will be celebrating it at After Dark this Tuesday starting at 7pm! Throw on your best Halloween garb and have a chance at winning prizes that will be awarded each hour! Four hours of live music featuring Twinghost, Steely Decosta, Funkyfreddy, and Oblee! Come to welcome us back from BURN2 and scare the pants off us*!

*There are no guarantees that the staff of After Dark will be wearing pants.

Points of Interest

If you look to your left you will see a house that contains a bathroom in which some half famous person once used the commode and did not wash their hands. Oh, my bad, I thought I was supposed to point out random points of interest!  Moving on……

IT’S FRIDAY!!!!!!

If you are a regular at After Dark Lounge, chances are that you know what many a Friday night in SL means. Guerilla Burlesque at the Acuo Theater on Idle Rogue!! Tonight the amazing talent of the troupe will be giving you two shows! One at 7pm and the other at midnight. The shows are not the same, I repeat, NOT THE SAME.

GB Oods

Eye candy for the ladies….

If you have never been to a Guerilla Burlesque performance, you need to reevalute your priorities. Also, you should probably try and make it tonight. Every show at GB (inside lingo, all the cool kids are using it) is remarkable. Each act is built by the dancers. From the concept, to the costuming to the choreography, to the set. It is a labor of love and it is nothing short of breathtaking. This week they will be welcoming Oodlemi Noodle (the hot piece of eye candy featured above) back to the stage at the 7pm show. After Dark Lounge’s very own Dark Phaeton will also be performing in the 7pm show, so there will be loads of eye candy for the ladies!

GB Ty and Deb

…and the gentleman!

At the midnight show they will be debuting a new dancer who will be performing to a song by one of the After Dark Lounge’s regular musicians! You might know her. She writes a blog, has a foul mouth, is crazy adorable…….but I am not going to tell you who it is! Meegan will also be performing in an act at the midnight show! Long story short, you kind of need to just come to both. Oh! And get there early! The theater can fill up pretty early!

One last thing before I leave you to your weekend. Please do not forget that After Dark Lounge will be having their monthly theme night this upcoming Thrusday, starting at 6pm! The theme is Saturday Night Live and we want to see you dressed as your favorite character from the show! Prizes will be given out each hour for the best dressed in the theme!

Oh my! It’s July!

Month-Of-July-1                                          Happy July from the After Dark crew!

Now that Canada Day and Independence Day have passed, we can settle into the month! We have some bits of awesomeness in the works at After Dark, and Idle Rogue has some greatness up their sleeves too!

ir

As many of you know, Idle Rogue has kicked off the latest season of Guerilla Burlesque! They have added several new soloists and corps dancers. One of which is our very own Tyche! They have also added additional show time to their schedule! Not only will they be doing the midnight show on Friday night/Saturday morning, they will also be performing on Friday evening at 7pm! No two shows will be the same!

In addition to Guerilla Burlesque starting up, Idle Rogue also has DJ Maeve spinning tunes at The Underground on Wednesday evenings starting at 8pm. Speaking of tunes…..there might just be a special event in the works for the end of the month, but you will just have to keep your eyes and ears open for that!

The After Dark Lounge has also added some artists to the family of regulars that grace the stage. The Vinnie Show has joined the lineup every other Sunday at the 10pm slot and Lyndon Heart has joined us on the opposite Sundays in the 9pm slot! You can view After Dark Lounge’s complete schedule here.

We hope that you are as excited about the upcoming month as we are!

Idle Dark? After Rogue? Either way, it’s hot!

movingVagueness be damned! It is time to let the world know that After Dark is moving! No longer will your favorite music venue be located at Rhi’s Poem on the Mai Tai sim.

After Dark April 7 2015 2The After Dark Lounge will be making the move to Idle Rogue, a beautiful sim that nurtures artistic expression, creativity and general bad-assery, and is home to Guerilla Burlesque and Arrehn Oberlander’s Metaharper Interactive Stages. For those who are not in the know, according to the Idle Rogue website The Metaharper Interactive Stages are a “‘push-button’ interactive experience. Professional dancers have taken some of their best-loved works and made them accessible to everyone.”

irAs many of you are aware, Guerilla Burlesque and Meegan Danitz go together like vodka and tonic. There are two things that Meegan loves most about life on the grid, the live music scene and Guerilla Burlesque. In her own words,  “When I came to SL all I ever wanted to do was dance with people.” Thankfully, she discovered the music scene and fell in love with it as well!  GB at AD-2

“The more that I got to know Cherry over the last couple of years, the more I admired how she did things and realized we shared the same philosophies on running our venues. It is just a perfect fit.” -Meegan Danitz

This coming Sunday night will be After Dark’s last night on the Mai Tai sim and we are planning a little something special for the occasion! Wear your moving clothes and come “help us move”, we will provide the pizza and beer!

Thank you to Imrhien Fargis for the awesome group dance photos!
