Our Growing Family

growing familyI bet you did not know we were even expecting! Well, I know you did not know, otherwise I am certain we would have received a lovely gift. Sure, you might have commented to our friend that Tyche was looking a little rounder these days, or that Meegan’s ass was looking extra fierce, but you had no idea!  Yes, the After Dark Lounge family is growing and we are happy to announce that…….

girlThe After Dark Lounge family gives a warm welcome to Shanny Waverider as she takes a position with us as hostess! Some of you regulars are probably thinking “Wait, hasn’t she worked there FOREVER?”. The simple answer is no. The more complex answer is that she has always been there to lend a helping hand whenever it is needed, so you may have seen her hosting at After Dark several times in the past. Now we have made it official! We liked it so we put a ring on it, so to speak!

Shanny’s official initiation begins immediately. We have stocked up on riding crops and baby oil for the occasion….oh, wait….I don’t think that part was supposed to be mentioned. Oh well, the cat is out of the bag now! Please join us in welcoming Shanny as an official member of the fam! (While we have stocked up on riding crops and baby oil, we encourage people to bring their own and initiate away!)*

In honor of the newest member of the After Dark family, we have taken a new staff group photo. It seemed like the right thing to do! You would not believe how hard it is to find sweet coordinating track suits, but we nailed it!

From left to right: Portia, Shanny, LadyGlory, Meegan, Tyche and Dark

Aren’t we a fine looking brood?!?!?!

Also in honor of Shanny drinking the Kool-Aid I wanted to share one of my favorite photos of her. It is a touching photograph of 3 girlfriends just relaxing at After Dark Lounge one night after the shows were over and the crowd had left. A simple moment between friends, honest, carefree…..uh-oh, here come the tears…..I should just post the photo. s

RELAX!So lovely, huh? Can you guess which is Shanny?

The next time you are at After Dark Lounge, be sure that you give Shanny a warm hello and let her know that you are as happy as we are that she is part of the family!

*Note: If you would like to initiate Shanny, please ask her if you may first. It is only proper!

Tell Ty Volume 2!

everyone-seems-normal-until-you-get-to-know-themIt is that time again! Time to get to know a bit about the musicians and staff at After Dark through the silly and amazing game of Tell Ty! If you missed the first round, or have just forgot what the heck it is that I am talking about click here!

Max Poster White shirt _ arms crossed w_textIf you have never heard of Max Kleene, then you either live under a rock or are insanely new to the SL music scene! Aside from being an amazing showman, Max has the distinction of being the only musician (so far..hint, hint to those who have yet to reply!) to include video evidence with his replies!

1. Tell me something random: I pitched a 7 inning no hitter in Little League.               2. Tell me something you think I should know about you: I juice fruits and vegetables with my Omega Juicer.                                                                                                        3. Tell me something that not everyone knows about you: I carried the Olympic Torch for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics

Seriously, how freaking cool is that??!?! Personally I kind of wish he had included a video of juicing too, but maybe that is just me.

                 LadyGlory GoldShark

LadyGlory GoldShark, or LG, as most of us call her, is next up! She is one of the gracious hostesses at After Dark. You know, the one being all cute and lovey with Rek? Yep, that is her and we love her for it!

1. Tell me something random. Yankee Candle add is calling me COOOME TO THE STORE
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you. i love to cook
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you. I am over 40 Mwaahhh

Anyone care to guess how much over 40? Somehow I doubt she will give up that info!

I sincerely hope that you all are enjoying this as much as I am! Oh, and a note to those who have not replied yet, I know where you play! (insert evil laugh here)

Hosting: Not for the faint of heart!

welcome_language_wordcloudYou walk into a venue. A friendly person, that you may or may not have ever met throws you a warm greeting, welcoming you to the venue and making you feel suddenly at home. Those greetings come from the hosts and hostesses of the venues. They greet every single person who enters, they bid a fond farewell to those who say goodbye before they have to poof, and in between all that they manage to keep track of crashers who are returning, throw out “thank yous” for tips and field IMs from those who need help while at the show.

I used to take that warm welcome for granted. USED TO. That is a mistake I will never make again! I made a vague attempt at hosting a few nights ago at After Dark when the regular hostesses for that night were both ill. Meegan asked for the help and I thought, “How hard can it be?”. Several minutes into it I realized just how hard it could be! I was a nervous wreck watching the list, waiting to pounce a hello on anyone new that popped up. I said hello to several people that we well out of range of hearing me. I am also pretty sure that I said hello to a friend who was not even at the venue, but was online. I was a mess!

By the end of the hour that I helped out I was mentally shot! One hour was all it took and I was d-o-n-e! There are nights when the host and hostesses at After Dark work hours on end. Just the thought of that makes my eye all twitchy! How the heck do they keep up with it? Don’t their fingers get tired? When on Earth do they pee?!?!?!

A dramatic reenactment of me after one hour of attempting to host.

Next time you enter After Dark, or any venue for that matter, and you are greeted with that warm welcome from the host or hostess, take the time to throw a greeting back at them. They work harder than you know to assure that everyone has a great time. Maybe even take a second to drop them a thank you in IM. Let them know that they are appreciated for all the hard work that they do.

Dark, LadyGlory, Portia, I bow down to you for working your butts off! Never, ever, ever again will I take a gracious host or hostess for granted!
