Story Time!

I am sure that there are some of you, who like me, are new or newish to the music scene of Secondlife. I am always curious how things get to where they are now. So I asked about the history of Rhi’s Poem/After Dark. Rather than spew a time line of events at you and holding a quiz at the end, I would like to tell you fairy tale style! (Creative writing classes, don’t fail me now!)
Pull up a comfy seat, or snuggle under the covers while I spin the Tale of After Dark!

fairy tale

Once upon a time (c’mon, you know you saw that coming!) there was a fair maiden by the name of Rhi. Rhi carried the dream of having a place where fine minstrels could display their talents for the masses. To fulfill this dream, Rhi embarked on a quest with her lady in waiting, Meegan, to find the finest minstrels that the land had to offer.

Their quest was one of toil, struggle and a crap ton of good music. Leaving nary a musical stone unturned, Rhi and Meegan returned from their quest enlightened and prepared to face the task of making Rhi’s dreams come to fruition. And thus the Mai Tai sim was born!

Sadly, as in all fairy tales, tragedy struck! The fair Rhi was kidnapped by an evil dragon and locked away in a tower, never to be seen again. Meegan, though distraught, knew that she had to carry on Rhi’s dream and thus took over the running of the land of Mai Tai. After a short time Meegan knew that she needed a place in the land of Mai Tai that was more a reflection of her vision. After Dark was created and perfected by the finest builders and it was, and still is a thing of beauty!

The minstrels graced the stage and regaled the patrons with their tales and tunes. The people of the land were delighted with both the music and the atmosphere. Meegan took on many to assist her with the heavy task of wrangling musicians, keeping schedules and making sure that the people were kept happy. Though Rhi was dearly missed, Meegan had taken the reigns and was very much enjoying her new role as a sim and venue owner.

HUZZAH!

                                                HUZZAH!

After some time had passed, as is apt to happen in fairly tales, the fair Meegan was wooed by a fine suitor. Normally a lovely lady such as herself would be drawn to dashing, handsome man, but in this case the suitor was another sim. Meegan had been in love with Idle Roque from her first visit there, and over time that love grew to include the people of the sim. (Not THAT way, get your minds out of the gutter!) When the chance to join the kingdom of Idle Rogue arose, Meegan was both smitten and flattered, but she also knew that it would mean leaving behind her beloved Mai Tai. It was not a decision that she took lightly, but in the end she knew that it would be best if she left Mai Tai and moved After Dark to Idle Rogue.

happily ever after

That, my friends, is where our fairy tale ends. The story is far from over, it is still being written each and every day, but for now I will just say that After Dark and Idle Rogue lived happily ever after.

The Underground

We have settled in very nicely at out new home at Idle Rogue! The stage at After Dark Lounge is rocking with live music and everyone is having an amazing time, as usual!  Cherryblondescribe has added a DJ series in the After Dark courtyard, titled The After Dark Sessions that does a superb job of bringing together the After Dark crowd and the Idle Roguers. Everything is…..well…..AWESOME!

I wanted to let y’all in on another nugget of greatness that takes place at Idle Rogue once a week. Every Wednesday at The Underground (the cozy lounge located under The Acuo Theater at Idle Rogue) DJ Maeve spins tunes starting at 8pm. I have had the pleasure of attending the last two weeks and heard everything from No Doubt to The Stones to a song about zombie prostitutes! The music is fun and the conversation and company is wonderful!

If you have not had a chance to check out The Underground, you really should. It is a very welcoming atmosphere and everyone there has a great time! Need proof? Here it is! Oh! and I almost forgot to mention, an inside tip for all the single men out there, there are a lot of hot ladies at The Underground….just sayin!

Diggin’ the New Digs!

It has been a little more than a week since After Dark made the move to Idle Rogue. Normally when one moves there is an adjustment period. It can take come time to get to know the new neighbors, get a feel for the area. There has been no adjustment period needed for this move. After Dark and Idle Rogue go together like peanut butter and jelly, peas and carrots, Thelma and Louise!

If you have not visited the new After Dark at Idle Rogue you need to! The music venue itself was made to look much like it had at Mai Tai. There have been some very cool additions though. Opposite the venue is a game room featuring Greedy, poker and Cards Against Humanity. Between the two buildings is a lovely courtyard where the one and only Cherryblondescribe hosts her After Dark DJ sessions on Monday nights at 10pm.

I could blather on and on about what a good time we have been having since the move, or I could just show you!

Idle Dark? After Rogue? Either way, it’s hot!

movingVagueness be damned! It is time to let the world know that After Dark is moving! No longer will your favorite music venue be located at Rhi’s Poem on the Mai Tai sim.

After Dark April 7 2015 2The After Dark Lounge will be making the move to Idle Rogue, a beautiful sim that nurtures artistic expression, creativity and general bad-assery, and is home to Guerilla Burlesque and Arrehn Oberlander’s Metaharper Interactive Stages. For those who are not in the know, according to the Idle Rogue website The Metaharper Interactive Stages are a “‘push-button’ interactive experience. Professional dancers have taken some of their best-loved works and made them accessible to everyone.”

irAs many of you are aware, Guerilla Burlesque and Meegan Danitz go together like vodka and tonic. There are two things that Meegan loves most about life on the grid, the live music scene and Guerilla Burlesque. In her own words,  “When I came to SL all I ever wanted to do was dance with people.” Thankfully, she discovered the music scene and fell in love with it as well!  GB at AD-2

“The more that I got to know Cherry over the last couple of years, the more I admired how she did things and realized we shared the same philosophies on running our venues. It is just a perfect fit.” -Meegan Danitz

This coming Sunday night will be After Dark’s last night on the Mai Tai sim and we are planning a little something special for the occasion! Wear your moving clothes and come “help us move”, we will provide the pizza and beer!

Thank you to Imrhien Fargis for the awesome group dance photos!
