Just Hitched!

congratshtiched

What do you so when a venue owner runs off and gets hitched with no pomp and circumstance? You bring the pomp and circumstance to her and her new wife by throwing a big ‘ol fashioned, tacky as can be wedding party! If Meegan and Rebecca thought that they could get away with eloping and not be dealt a good dose of silliness, they were sadly mistaken!

The party had everything one could want at a tacky, somewhat redneck, back yard reception…and so much more! A pickup truck with cans hanging from the tailgate? CHECK! Gigantic pretend pictures from the wedding day? CHECK! More amazing music than one can shake a shotgun at? CHECK! Watermelon and lemonade left over from July 4th? CHECK! A keg full of cold brew, complete with rainbow colored plastic cups? CHECK! Way too bright rainbow wedding cake? CHECK! Dancing girls? CHECK! Totally inappropriate wedding apparel on both brides? CHECK! Lots of love from friends and possibly people who are just trying to score an invite to what will be the wedding of the decade even though the brides are already married? CHECK!  All of that and so, so much more!

So much can be said about the level of fun that was had at After Dark last Sunday, but I will just let the pictures tell the story! A big thank you to Raspbury Rearwin, Voodoo Shilton and Red Heaven for providing the musical entertainment for the evening!

One thing of note, in case you were not there and since it is hard to read in the pictures, Rebecca is wearing a tshit that says “Save a horse, ride the bride”. And that is pure klass!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the love of these two amazing women. It was one hell of a night and a total blast! One more special thanks to Voodoo, Shanny and LG for helping Ty pull off the surprise dance for the brides!

Ty’s Choice Awards 2016!!

Disclaimer:
This is not meant to belittle the Avi Choice Awards. Like everything else that I write, this is written in the spirit of silliness and fun!

TCALadies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Children of all ages!

Oh wait….wrong pomp for the circumstance!

**DRUMROLL**

Booming announcer voice: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the second annual Ty’s Choice Awards! And now…your hostess with the mostest, Tyche Szondi!”

Thank you disembodied booming voice! Welcome everyone to the second annual Ty’s Choice Awards! Can you believe it has already been a year? Can you believe that I have been permitted by management to host again this year?!?

Speaking of management, we are thrilled to have the marvelous Meegan Danitz in attendance this year, Following last year’s series of “wardrobe malfunctions” she has decided to make sure that nothing of that nature will occur this year. I am sure you all got a good look at her on the red carpet, I honestly did not know that someone could look so stunning in a full length mumu! mumumeegan

Ahhh……Ty’s Choice….MY Choice…the only award that is given completely arbitrarily based on the opinion of one person, There is not panel of judges, there is no selection committee, there is just me and whatever strikes my fancy! It happens to be my most favorite awards show of the year, and I hope it is in at least your top ten!

But I digress! Some of the awards require a bit of explanation this year, Why you ask? Because I happen to like catchy names and when one fits and makes sense in my head I realize that it might not make so much sense to everyone else. If they do immediately make sense to you, you might want to seek professional help! Oh! And for those of you who are paying attention, you might have noticed that the award itself has changed this year. I certainly think it is a better representation of the award’s namesake!

On with the show!

As was the format last year, I will not be boring you with long-winded attempts at making you laugh or over produced musical numbers. We are here to find out who won!  Now, When you read the list you need to read them in an announcer’s voice. “And the TCA for ________ goes to_____!” Extra points if you read them aloud, in public and get strange looks from people around you!

winnerThe Bipolar Set Award (Best at taking you from laughing to tearing up in the matter of a song.) : SaraMarie Philly

The “Caution! Wet Floor!” Award (Because sometimes that voice requires the use of added safety measures!): Twinghost Ronas

The In Absentia Award (Most Likely to Play While Crashed) : Lyndon Heart

congratulations-4308

Let’s hear a round of applause for all of our winners! Remember, there are not losers at After Dark Lounge…..well, there was that one guy that one time, but that is what the “block” feature is for!

The after party is calling and the booze is flowing. I must apologize for the lack of red carpet pictures this year. It came down to hire a photographer or have an open bar and I think that we can all agree which if the more important of the two!

Much love and many congratulations!

~Ty

It is an honor just to be nominated…..

……but it would be total kick ass to win!

AWARD

Unfortunately, this award is not one of the Avi Choice award categories!

The crew at After Dark is honored and humbled to announce that the club has received not one, but TWO nominations for the Avi Choice Awards! Not only that, but our amazing owner, her royal fierceness, Miss Meegan Danitz has been nominated as well!

After Dark is nominated for Favorite Stage or Theater Set Design, because, let’s face it, the place is gorgeous, warm, inviting and the perfect setting for spending an evening listening to your favorite live music! The venue is also up for Favorite Venue, Sr (in operation more than a year). Are they calling After Dark old? Heck yes it has been around (Not “around the block”, c’mon people! This is serious biness!) and in a place where live venues come and go it really is a great honor to be among those that have stood the test of time!

The lovely and talented Miss Meegan Danitz is nominated for Favorite Dance Choreographer. She very modestly claims that she does not belong in that category, but if you have ever seen her perform on the stage, you know that she most definitely does!

We are also pleased to announce that several of our regular performers have been nominated as well!

Max Kleene: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Male Performer

Sassy Nitely: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Female Performer

Vinnie (Acoustic Rhapsody): Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Original Songs Artist, Favorite Instrumentalist

Joel Eilde: Favorite Rock Singer

Voodoo Shilton: Favorite Jazz Artist/Musician, Favorite Instrumentalist, Favorite Instruments or Performance Equipment Builder

SaraMarie Philly: Favorite Singer in Standards, Classical or Ballads

Twinghost Ronas: Favorite Original Songs Artist

Congratulations to you all and we wish you the best of luck!

The Road Forward

On Saturday, March 7th a whole load of awesome took place at After Dark’s outdoor venue. The amazing people of SL came together to help one of our own,the lovely TheaDee, who is currently kicking cancer’s ass like a boss! The Road Forward was one of the most amazing displays of generosity I have ever witnessed. Meegan orchestrated the event, Cori decorated the venue, and each of the musicians happily volunteered their time. The outpouring of generosity from everyone there was nothing short of mind blowing!

A HUGE “Thank you!” goes out to all who gave their time, energy and money to the cause. The musicians get a special shout out, without them this could not have happened. Sassy Nitely, Voodoo Shilton, Moon Spark, Bat Masters, Suzen Juel, Lyndon Heart, Zak Claxton, Porter Paquot, Max Kleene, FunkyFreddy Republic, Taunter Goodnight, Liz Aday, Red Heaven, The Follow, you are all amazing and generous!

If you were not able to be there you missed a spectacular day of music, love and friendship. The good news is that many people were able to take photos of the day! Enjoy! Photos are courtesy of TheaDee and Cori!

Ty’s Choice Awards

Disclaimer:
This is not mean to belittle the Avi Choice Awards. Like everything else that I write, this is written in the spirit of silliness and fun! RS90s-cup-trophy*DRUMROLL*

Booming announcer voice: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first annual Ty’s Choice Awards! And now…your hostess for the evening, Tyche Szondi!”

Thank you! Thank you! You can all sit now, there is no need for all of that. There will be plenty of time to show your undying love and appreciation for me at the after party!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first annual Ty’s Choice Awards! This is an award show like no other! There are no nominees. There are no losers. Rather than having our regular musicians vying against one another for some silly statuette, I have taken it upon myself to give each of them an award in a category completely tailored just for them! Another way the Ty’s Choice Awards are better than other awards shows is the lack of long winded acceptance speeches. (Unless any of the artists would like to send me an acceptance speech, in which case I will gladly feature it on the website!)

One final thing before we hand out the awards. Unfortunately, Meegan Danitz cannot be with us this evening. As some of you may have witnessed before the show while on the red carpet, Meegan was told by security that if she had one more nip slip she would be banned from the show and not allowed back on the premises until the show was over. Upon hearing this, Meegan untied her wrap dress and walked the rest of the red carpet with her dress hanging open and all of her lady bits showing. At the end of the red carpet she was taken into custody. We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her at the after party!

Now on with the show! Screw the silly jokes between awards, and the music numbers. Let’s give these things out! Now, When you read the list you need to read them in an announcer’s voice. “And the TCA for ________ goes to_____!” Extra points if you read them aloud and get strange looks from people around you! Tell Ty!

everyone-seems-normal-until-you-get-to-know-them Wanna play a game? Or better yet, wanna watch others play a game?  You know darn well you do! It is going to be awesome, trust me!

You know that awkward phase when you first come to or return to SL? The “What the hell do I do with my time” phase?
We have all been there and done that. I got lucky and met a really cool “dood” (his word, not mine!) not long after my return to SL and he taught me a game that I have since played with many a person I meet in SL. He and I would sit on a rail in a somewhat questionable sim and people watch and play this game for hours.

This game is a great way to find out things about another person. It is also a really fun way to get a glimpse into how another person’s mind works. Three simple statements that require a reply. No clarification or follow up allowed, just the answers as they are given.

1. Tell me something random.
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you.
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you.

Tell-Me-Something-GoodI decided this would be a great way to get to know a little more about the staff and regular artists who grace the stage at After Dark. Thankfully they are all awesome and were more than willing to participate. Some more willing than others, but I am nothing if not persistent! I will be featuring a few sets of replies each week in a piece I like to call Tell Ty.  All answers are posted exactly as they were given by the participants.

Tell Ty! Volume 1

Frets Nirvana Promo

Frets Nirvana

I am starting this off with Frets Nirvana, mostly because his reply to number 3 has me intrigued!

1. Tell me something random. – Life is Too Short for One Groove!
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you. – I was once marketing director for Gibson Guitar.
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you.  – I have a secret about something stupid I did recently …but I will not tell until January 1, 2015!  So stay tuned!

Now, as the rules state, there is no follow up allowed to the replies given, but you all know you are wondering about that number 3 reply as much as I am!

coriporter

The incorrigible Miss Cori

Next up we have The Incorrigible Miss Cori, co-owner of After Dark. Her reply to the first statement nearly made me spit water onto my screen when I read it.

1. Tell me something random.
I read today that snakes have two penises. I’m terrified of snakes yet this fascinates me.

2. Tell me something you think I should know about you.
I was a phone sex operator for 13 years.  I still work in the adult industry as a web designer and SEO marketing agent.

3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you.
I have done just about everything “career” wise in SL: musician, manager, venue owner, game host, DJ, dancer .. I’ve pretty much run the gambit and I think it’s given me a very well rounded SL experience.

See how awesome this is? Not only do you get to know about the staff and artists, but you get to learn about the oddities of the animal world!

Joel Eilde of Red Heaven

Joel Eilde of Red Heaven

Rounding out the first installment of Tell Ty is Joel  Eilde of Red Heaven. He had the privilege (or disadvantage, depending on whether you are a cup half full or half empty kind of person) of being the first artist I dropped this on and he played the game just as it should be played. Immediate answers, no over thinking.

1. Tell me something random.
I hate black licorice but I love anise.

2. Tell me something you think I should know about you.
I believe the world is one country and mankind its citizens.

3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you.
I’m fluent in American Sign Language and used to work as an interpreter.

I really hope that you all enjoy these little nuggets of insight as much as I do! There will be many more to come!
