FREDSTOCK: A RETROSPECTIVE IN BLACK AND WHITE

red barn crayon

Artist’s rendering of The Barn. Please note: After Dark Lounge does    not have a large budget for such things!

I have received a number of requests for a blog post on Fredstock, or to those who follow me on facebook, Feedstock. (Thank you autocorrect!) I am more than happy to tell everyone all about everything that went on that awesome weekend…but….

WHAT HAPPENS AT FREDSTOCK STAYS AT FREDSTOCK!

I will share one thing with you and that is my favorite moment from the weekend, I have to tell you all that there is nothing more amazing than sitting by a fire, having a beer and listening to Fred, Voo and Max talk shop. It was the singles coolest moment of the weekend for me!

While I cannot share the details of Fredstock with you, I do want to share some great photos that I snapped at the Black and White Ball that was hosted at Idle Rogue by Lingual Markus, Chryblnd Scribe and Meegan Danitz! I would like to apologize in advance to Ren and Quai for not getting a picture of them, I thought that I had, and Ren looked completely stunning that night so I was terribly disappointed to find that I did not have one of them! EDIT! Meegan had a picture of Ren and part of Quai!

Me!

Sorry to those who were really thinking that they were going to hear all about the barn, but rules are rules!

We came! We saw! We JAMMED!

Second Life and First Life collided in the best possible way last weekend when Meegan and I attended the MidAtlantic Jam in Dulles, Va! To say that it was a good time does not even begin to do the trip justice.

It was *almost* like being at After Dark Lounge. Musicians on the stage, us in the crowd, heads bobbing and butts wiggling. (I would like to state for the record, that unlike in Second Life, when you tap Meegan’s butt in First Life it does not animate you!) It is easy to see how people can get addicted to attending these events. We are incredibly spoiled by unbelievable talent in SL and to have a few day of that in First Life is something that just cannot be fully explained!

Among the artists that played at the MidAtlantic Jam were After Dark Lounge regulars Voodoo Shilton,  Maximillion Kleene. and Ren and Quai. Ren and Quai carried the music late into the night in the hospitality suite. Max played a great set with the Quadradix , minus one. Voodoo sat in with several other musicians and held a very informative clinic on how he makes his music, Seeing the looping done in real time was close to mind blowing, especially for someone who can barely walk and chew gum! The Follow played a low key acoustic set the first night and then rocked us thoroughly the second!

Through all of the excitement I did manage to snap a few pics of the happenings of the weekend. All photos are used with the permission of those who were photographed.

Cinco de After Darko!

I managed to snap a few pics of After Dark Lounge’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. The margaritas were flowing, the music was jamming and the señors and señoritas were shaking it as best they can! Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate!

Happy Birthday Reknard!

happybirthday1

There are many regulars who we adore at After Dark. What do we do for those we adore? We show them just how much they mean to us and celebrate them and their milestones!

Reknard Goldshark, also knows as LadyGlory’s arm candy, has been a fixture at After Dark since I have been visiting there. Rek has a wonderful sense of humor, a generous soul and is just an all around good guy. It was a pleasure to celebrate his birthday with him and with some of his favorite musicians!

LG and Rek RBD

Stephanniyah Sinatra started off the night. (And because I am none too bright some nights, I completely blanked on taking a picture of her while she was on stage!) Steph is not only one of Rek’s favorite artists, but she also played at the wedding of Rek and LG. Steph had Rek and LG all starry eyed, gooey and flirty. They are my favorite couple in SL and they routinely make me throw up a little in my mouth.

11032673_457418087743694_78702997_oFunkyFreddy Republic played the second hour with special guest Max Kleene. It was very obvious that they were having a hell of a time at the barn and the laughter and good times were infectious!

Fred and Max RBD Fred and Max2 RBD Max RBDThe evening ended with LG giving Rek a VERY special birthday gift and ended up earning herself a little spending money in the process! Sadly, I did not take any pictures of Rek receiving his gift from LG and even if I had, I am sure she would be less than thrilled with me if I posted them here! Instead I will give you this “dramatic reenactment“. Not entirely safe for work, but not the worst I could do either!

Happy Birthday Rek!

The Road Forward

On Saturday, March 7th a whole load of awesome took place at After Dark’s outdoor venue. The amazing people of SL came together to help one of our own,the lovely TheaDee, who is currently kicking cancer’s ass like a boss! The Road Forward was one of the most amazing displays of generosity I have ever witnessed. Meegan orchestrated the event, Cori decorated the venue, and each of the musicians happily volunteered their time. The outpouring of generosity from everyone there was nothing short of mind blowing!

A HUGE “Thank you!” goes out to all who gave their time, energy and money to the cause. The musicians get a special shout out, without them this could not have happened. Sassy Nitely, Voodoo Shilton, Moon Spark, Bat Masters, Suzen Juel, Lyndon Heart, Zak Claxton, Porter Paquot, Max Kleene, FunkyFreddy Republic, Taunter Goodnight, Liz Aday, Red Heaven, The Follow, you are all amazing and generous!

If you were not able to be there you missed a spectacular day of music, love and friendship. The good news is that many people were able to take photos of the day! Enjoy! Photos are courtesy of TheaDee and Cori!

Ty’s Choice Awards

Disclaimer:
This is not mean to belittle the Avi Choice Awards. Like everything else that I write, this is written in the spirit of silliness and fun! RS90s-cup-trophy*DRUMROLL*

Booming announcer voice: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first annual Ty’s Choice Awards! And now…your hostess for the evening, Tyche Szondi!”

Thank you! Thank you! You can all sit now, there is no need for all of that. There will be plenty of time to show your undying love and appreciation for me at the after party!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first annual Ty’s Choice Awards! This is an award show like no other! There are no nominees. There are no losers. Rather than having our regular musicians vying against one another for some silly statuette, I have taken it upon myself to give each of them an award in a category completely tailored just for them! Another way the Ty’s Choice Awards are better than other awards shows is the lack of long winded acceptance speeches. (Unless any of the artists would like to send me an acceptance speech, in which case I will gladly feature it on the website!)

One final thing before we hand out the awards. Unfortunately, Meegan Danitz cannot be with us this evening. As some of you may have witnessed before the show while on the red carpet, Meegan was told by security that if she had one more nip slip she would be banned from the show and not allowed back on the premises until the show was over. Upon hearing this, Meegan untied her wrap dress and walked the rest of the red carpet with her dress hanging open and all of her lady bits showing. At the end of the red carpet she was taken into custody. We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her at the after party!

Now on with the show! Screw the silly jokes between awards, and the music numbers. Let’s give these things out! Now, When you read the list you need to read them in an announcer’s voice. “And the TCA for ________ goes to_____!” Extra points if you read them aloud and get strange looks from people around you! Tell Ty Volume 2!

everyone-seems-normal-until-you-get-to-know-themIt is that time again! Time to get to know a bit about the musicians and staff at After Dark through the silly and amazing game of Tell Ty! If you missed the first round, or have just forgot what the heck it is that I am talking about click here!

Max Poster White shirt _ arms crossed w_textIf you have never heard of Max Kleene, then you either live under a rock or are insanely new to the SL music scene! Aside from being an amazing showman, Max has the distinction of being the only musician (so far..hint, hint to those who have yet to reply!) to include video evidence with his replies!

1. Tell me something random: I pitched a 7 inning no hitter in Little League.               2. Tell me something you think I should know about you: I juice fruits and vegetables with my Omega Juicer.                                                                                                        3. Tell me something that not everyone knows about you: I carried the Olympic Torch for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics

MAX RUNNING THE FREAKING OLYMPIC TORCH!

Seriously, how freaking cool is that??!?! Personally I kind of wish he had included a video of juicing too, but maybe that is just me.

LadyG

                 LadyGlory GoldShark

LadyGlory GoldShark, or LG, as most of us call her, is next up! She is one of the gracious hostesses at After Dark. You know, the one being all cute and lovey with Rek? Yep, that is her and we love her for it!

1. Tell me something random. Yankee Candle add is calling me COOOME TO THE STORE
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you. i love to cook
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you. I am over 40 Mwaahhh

Anyone care to guess how much over 40? Somehow I doubt she will give up that info!

I sincerely hope that you all are enjoying this as much as I am! Oh, and a note to those who have not replied yet, I know where you play! (insert evil laugh here)

The evil elf is on the shelf,
And he’s got that creepy glare!

Still scared as hell
What’s with the demon deer?
It might be time to pound some wine
And rock out to the sweet tunes here!

What does “Scary Christmas” mean? Any dang thing you want it to! Put the nugget in your brain and run with the first thing that comes to mind! You know that at After Dark nearly anything goes! (Note from management: “Anything goes so long as all pertinent bits and pieces are properly covered.”)

What scary Christmas means to Tyche.

Come down this week and get as festive as your bad elf wants! We look forward to celebrating the season with you!

Tyche’s First Time

I remember the first time I visited After Dark like it was yesterday. I was very new to the SL music scene and headed over there to see Oblee …..wait, or was it Max…..OK, so maybe I do not remember it exactly like it was yesterday, but I still remember it. Anyway, I teleported into the space. There was one hell of a hopping crowd. Before my old as dirt laptop even had time to rez the stage I was greeted with a friendly hello from LG or Dark or Portia (damn you memory!), then again by owner Meegan Danitz. Being so new to the scene that made me feel super special.

The Stage at After Dark

Once I got my bearings, I took a good look at the joint and I was immediately in love. Few places have such an intimate feel without making you feel claustrophobic once they are crowded. After Dark freaking nails it. Seriously, even if it ass-to-elbow crowded there it is still such a good vibe. A comfy and cozy place that I instantly felt at home in, even though I knew no one there. The banter between the staff and the “regulars” was amusing as crap. The staff is pretty dang amazing, but more on all that jazz another day…this is my story dammit!

Seating area near dance floor

Dance Floor

I rocked out to whoever the heck it was I was there to see. Come to think of it, I am pretty sure I had gone to see Oblee and Max was either playing before or after. Yes! And my memory decides to work! Woot! It was my first time seeing Max and it was pretty bad ass. It was one of my many firsts at After Dark. Musical firsts…..get your minds out of the gutter, or keep them there, it is your Secondlife!

Anyway, back to first impressions. I had been to a few other venues in SL before visiting After Dark and none of them made me feel like I was at a place where I would go see live music in 1st life. After Dark has everything that my local haunts have minus the beer stained floors. Oh! There is a red carpet in the entry way! Talk about feeling fancy! There are comfy little corners and seating for those who don’t want to dance, or maybe just want to get handsy while listening to great tunes. (Don’t judge, you know you have either done it or wanted to but wussed out!) The dance floor is the perfect size. No matter the crowd it just feels right. And the stage….I really do love the stage set up. You can dance inches from the stage and nearly on top of the performers, though I think that is frowned upon in general!

Even if you are a regular at After Dark, take the time to really check out the space. I know that most of my time there is spent standing directly in front of the stage during live show, but there is so much more to the space!

Bar-Cuddle Space

Cozy Booths and Bar Area

Cozy space

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

And now we pretend this is the Power Point portion of my rambling. Bullet points for the win!
Dammit I wish I had a projector and a pointer. If you happen to have such things at your disposal please feel free to make use of them as you read the bullet point rundown of my first impression of After Dark.
• kick ass staff
• cozy and comfy in both the vibe and the decor
• rocking musical acts playing there at least twice a week
• plenty of dance space
• plenty of space for not dancing (aka getting handsy)
• always a great crowd and very little perving (at least open perving, what you are doing in   those naughty boxes is no one’s business but your own!)
• Meegan’s fierce ass (Yes, I realize I did not mention that earlier, but believe me, it will be
mentioned time and time again.)

So there it is. My first time at After Dark. There have been sooo many times there since then and it just gets better and better. I really do feel at home there and if you have not checked it out you need to. Stop reading this and get yourself there! Now!!
