There are some very obvious truths in the world. Things that cannot be denied. You don’t have to have money to be happy. You don’t have to have a great voice to sing in the shower. You don’t have to be rich to be my girl. You don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude. Just leave it all………and there I go getting off track. The point I am trying to get is that you don’t have to win the top prize to know that you are doing a good job, or to write an acceptance speech. Especially when you write for a blog!
Before the absolute silliness commences, I need to get serious. Everyone at After Dark would like to congratulate all of the nominees and winners of the Avi Choice Awards. In case you missed the results, we didn’t take home any trophies, but we did make it to the finals for Favorite Live Venue! Thank you so much to everyone who voted and to all of our musicians and regulars that are just such damn amazing people. All of you put us in the top 5 in a sea of amazing nominees! That alone proves how many awesome people come to After Dark Lounge!
Ok, now for the silliness!
Had After Dark Lounge won for favorite Live music venue, I would like to think that it would have gone down a little like this.
MC: “And the Avi Choice Award goes to…….After Dark Lounge! *massive applause* After Dark Lounge is not able to join us this evening because, well, it is a building and does not get around too often. Thankfully, through the magic of modern technology we have After Dark via Skype to accept the award”
*camera pans to gigantic screen above the presenters. After Dark Lounge comes into view. A booming voice is heard*
“It is a pleasure and an honor to be receiving such a prestigious award. There are so many to thank, I do not even know where to begin! I supposed I should start with Meegan Danitz. Meegan, you are the platform beneath my structure. I would be nothing were it not for you and your love of live music and your commitment to the live music scene in Secondlife. When I was just a tiny prim I dreamed of greatness, but never did I know to what a level that greatness would reach. I am forever in debt to you Meegan and I hope I am not relegated to the deep dark recesses of your inventory anytime soon.
Next I need to think TheaDee for making me gorgeous. You gave me my first “look” and you keep me hip, hot and current. You are a miracle worker and without you I would be nothing more than an empty brick square.
Speaking of making me look pretty, LadyGlory…… You get me all dolled up for theme nights and let me pretend I am a different building for a short while. Also to LG and Portia, Dark, and Shanny, you all make people love me. You make them feel welcome from the second they land on my gorgeous hardwood floors. You make them want to come see me.
And to those regulars and all of the many musicians……It is a pleasure to have you all inside of me. I have had more musicians inside me than The Madison Square Garden and I love it. I know that sometimes it can get a little tight inside, but those are the nights I love the most. Knowing that people are ass to elbow inside of me and enjoying the hell out of themselves make me feel completely full, not just in my cavernous space but also in my heart.
There have been times when I was scared. When I thought the music was gone and never coming back. *Cue rain and gentle sniffles* When Meegs got sick…..every year during Burn……when Meegs work was being a total douchebag…….The music always came back though, and the fans returned and my purpose as a venue was once again fulfilled.
Tyche….how could I forget Tyche? You were unexpected, loud, bossy and boisterous. For shit’s sake, you write about me damn near every week. I can admit when I am wrong and filing that restraining order against you was stupid of me and having it repealed was one of the smartest things I ever did.
Last but not least I would like to thank the higher beings…..the Lindens. Your world lets me be me. Hell, it lets me be, period! This one is for you!
Thank you all! After Dark OUT! *drops the mic*
