‘Tis the Season!

merryThe holiday season is upon us, there is no denying that. Hell, in some places it seems to pop up right after July 4th in retail stores. With the holidays comes stress, worries and often some Bah Humbug! Whoever wrote the song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” must have been high! We at After Dark want to help make your holidays more tolerable. In the spirit of the season I have taken it upon myself to rework the lyrics of some of our beloved Xmas tunes and give them a bit of an After Dark spin!

In the style of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”
I just want to stay…. (Baby it’s After Dark)
Don’t want to go away….(Baby it’s After Dark)
Meegan’s fierce ass is looking fine (I think that to myself all the time)
I really should go to bed (Psh, you can sleep when you’re dead)
Instead I’m rocking the dance floor (So why not dance a little bit more?)
Eff it, I’ll stay (I knew you would anyway)
‘Cause baby it’s After Dark!
In the style of “Jingle Bell Rock”
After Dark
After Dark
After Dark rocks
People go their to shake their derrieres
Lots of great music and people to perv
Ask one to dance if you get the nerve
After Dark Lounge is the best lounge
for dancing cares away
Live musician will have you wishing
You didn’t have to work the next day
Get yourself to After Dark
Tap Meegan’s tush
And totally ignore the clock
Because After Dark
Because After Dark
Because After Dark ROCKS!
merry2
In the style of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
You know Shanny and LG and Tyche and Portia. Dark Phaeton (the man dancing with no shirt on)
But do you recall….the one who pays them all?
Meegan the fierce assed owner
Runs a freaking awesome club
And if you’ve ever been there
You might already be in love
All the musicians and regulars
Think Meegan;s pretty sweet
They like to tap her bottom
So her dances will move their feet.
Meegan is a kick ass dame
with an ass to match
She greets all as they come in
and even when they crash
Ohhhhhhh
Meegan the fierce assed owner
Runs a freaking awesome club
And if you’ve ever been there
You might already be in love
In the style of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”
I saw LG spelling my name wrong
When I landed at After Dark last night
She knew I saw the misspell
But she said what the hell
And went on with her hosting gig
which she does so well!
pjparty
Festive as fu…..uh….fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, right? Need some more spirit of the season? We have sooo got you covered! This Sunday December 18th, After Dark Lounge will be hosting a Christmas PJ Party! There will be prizes for festive jammies. Linden prizes, you ask…oh HO HO HO No! Gag gift prizes. Tyche will be picking then out so chances are they will be rude, crude and possibly offensive! If that is not reason enough to be there then you might just be a Scrooge! And now I leave you with one of the most celebrated sayings of the season……

Ty’s Choice Awards 2016!!

Disclaimer:
This is not meant to belittle the Avi Choice Awards. Like everything else that I write, this is written in the spirit of silliness and fun!

TCALadies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Children of all ages!

Oh wait….wrong pomp for the circumstance!

**DRUMROLL**

Booming announcer voice: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the second annual Ty’s Choice Awards! And now…your hostess with the mostest, Tyche Szondi!”

Thank you disembodied booming voice! Welcome everyone to the second annual Ty’s Choice Awards! Can you believe it has already been a year? Can you believe that I have been permitted by management to host again this year?!?

Speaking of management, we are thrilled to have the marvelous Meegan Danitz in attendance this year, Following last year’s series of “wardrobe malfunctions” she has decided to make sure that nothing of that nature will occur this year. I am sure you all got a good look at her on the red carpet, I honestly did not know that someone could look so stunning in a full length mumu! mumumeegan

Ahhh……Ty’s Choice….MY Choice…the only award that is given completely arbitrarily based on the opinion of one person, There is not panel of judges, there is no selection committee, there is just me and whatever strikes my fancy! It happens to be my most favorite awards show of the year, and I hope it is in at least your top ten!

But I digress! Some of the awards require a bit of explanation this year, Why you ask? Because I happen to like catchy names and when one fits and makes sense in my head I realize that it might not make so much sense to everyone else. If they do immediately make sense to you, you might want to seek professional help! Oh! And for those of you who are paying attention, you might have noticed that the award itself has changed this year. I certainly think it is a better representation of the award’s namesake!

On with the show!

As was the format last year, I will not be boring you with long-winded attempts at making you laugh or over produced musical numbers. We are here to find out who won!  Now, When you read the list you need to read them in an announcer’s voice. “And the TCA for ________ goes to_____!” Extra points if you read them aloud, in public and get strange looks from people around you!

winnerThe Bipolar Set Award (Best at taking you from laughing to tearing up in the matter of a song.) : SaraMarie Philly

The “Caution! Wet Floor!” Award (Because sometimes that voice requires the use of added safety measures!): Twinghost Ronas

The G-String Award (Most likely to play wearing nothing but a G-string!): Grif Bamaisin

Biggest Tip (Jar!): Sassy Nitely

The Sharing the “Love” Award (Given for the silliest/dirtiest/funniest “love” song dedications.): Vinnie “The Vinnie Show”

Loopiest: obeloinkment.wrigglesworth

The “SURPRISE!” Award (Most likely to refuse to play a song for over a year then whip it out (the song you perverts!) for someone’s birthday): PT Beardmore

The “Lost in Space” Award (Most likely to get on a tangent and lose track of time): Funkyfreddy Republic

The In Absentia Award (Most Likely to Play While Crashed) : Lyndon Heart

The Snuggle Humper (Most Likely to Elicit Snuggle Humps From Meegan): Roxy Paradox

The “Nothing is Safe” Award (Most Likely to Read IM’s aloud during her set): Rara Destiny

Best Growl (Yes, this IS a repeat of last year, but c’mon, that growl is flipping amazing!): Joel Eilde (Red Heaven)

The Phan-Phucking-Tastic Award: Phemie Alcott

Most Rock Star Sounding Name: Steely Decosta

The “Talk Dirty to Me” Award (Most Likely to Elicit Naughty Talk in Local During Their Set): Ren and Quai

The Luxurious Locks Award (In both SL and RL) Voodoo Shilton

Most Diverse Song List: Maximillion Kleene

The Benefactor Award (For his work with Homes for Veterans) Frets Nirvana

Most Zealous Fans (I am looking at you, Bean!) Stephanniyah Sinatra

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award goes to After Dark Lounge’s very own Meegan Danitz. Her passion for music and artistry is what keeps the lights on and brings all of these amazing artists to the stage.

congratulations-4308

Let’s hear a round of applause for all of our winners! Remember, there are not losers at After Dark Lounge…..well, there was that one guy that one time, but that is what the “block” feature is for!

The after party is calling and the booze is flowing. I must apologize for the lack of red carpet pictures this year. It came down to hire a photographer or have an open bar and I think that we can all agree which if the more important of the two!

Much love and many congratulations!

~Ty

It is an honor just to be nominated…..

……but it would be total kick ass to win!

AWARD

Unfortunately, this award is not one of the Avi Choice award categories!

The crew at After Dark is honored and humbled to announce that the club has received not one, but TWO nominations for the Avi Choice Awards! Not only that, but our amazing owner, her royal fierceness, Miss Meegan Danitz has been nominated as well!

After Dark is nominated for Favorite Stage or Theater Set Design, because, let’s face it, the place is gorgeous, warm, inviting and the perfect setting for spending an evening listening to your favorite live music! The venue is also up for Favorite Venue, Sr (in operation more than a year). Are they calling After Dark old? Heck yes it has been around (Not “around the block”, c’mon people! This is serious biness!) and in a place where live venues come and go it really is a great honor to be among those that have stood the test of time!

The lovely and talented Miss Meegan Danitz is nominated for Favorite Dance Choreographer. She very modestly claims that she does not belong in that category, but if you have ever seen her perform on the stage, you know that she most definitely does!

We are also pleased to announce that several of our regular performers have been nominated as well!

Max Kleene: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Male Performer

Sassy Nitely: Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Female Performer

Vinnie (Acoustic Rhapsody): Favorite Acoustic Singer, Favorite Rock Singer, Favorite Pop Singer, Favorite Original Songs Artist, Favorite Instrumentalist

Joel Eilde: Favorite Rock Singer

Voodoo Shilton: Favorite Jazz Artist/Musician, Favorite Instrumentalist, Favorite Instruments or Performance Equipment Builder

SaraMarie Philly: Favorite Singer in Standards, Classical or Ballads

Twinghost Ronas: Favorite Original Songs Artist

Congratulations to you all and we wish you the best of luck!

votenowA million thanks to those who took the time to nominate! Now, one last thing………. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

How’d you get here? Vol. 2!

you are hereI got to get my ramble on in the first volume of Who’d You Get Here? and I had a lot of fun with it. Now it is time to turn it over to other and see what their stories are. Putting together this feature is a blast! Work should not be this much fun, but don’t tell Meegan that! If you are new to the blog or need a refresher, this will be a recurring feature on the blog where we find out about how people, both musicians and patrons, came to discover the music scene in SL.I love hearing these stories and I hope that you will enjoy them as well. I would like to give a big thank you to all of those who have already accepted my request to participate, without you all this would be nothing!

I know that I asked for a few sentences or a short paragraph about one’s first time attending a live show in SL. And I know that I did not follow the guideline of keeping it short when I wrote mine. Neither did Vinnie! I am glad he did not, it is well worth the read and gives a good look into the power that the live music scene has in SL. Seriously, reading this gives me warm fuzzies, which it not to be confused with tingles, just sayin’. (The following is posted exactly as it was sent to me, no editing on my part.)

HOW VINNIE GOT HERE!

Vinnie SL12B

You can catch The Vinnie Show every other Sunday, 10pm @ After Dark.

OK here’s the story of “My First Time”:
I’m a RL musician, that’s my trade. I’m a working drummer who also sings. Besides playing in a band for a living, I also teach drums and percussion at a local music store and I’m contracted to go out to several schools as a marching band percussion advisor, instructor, and consultant. Playing guitar has been my main “hobby” since my teen years. I’ve used the guitar as a songwriting tool and for recording, but I’m not a seasoned or experienced guitarist in RL. Instead, I found an outlet on the Internet. I was able to go to a musicians’ chat room on Paltalk where I was allowed to play my guitar and sing in a “pass the mic” format. It was there I met Lexie Smith who became a loyal and trusted friend. Around 2006 she introduced me to Second Life – said I could do hour-long shows and showcase my original songs as well as my favorite covers. I joined and tried to make sense of it….but I couldn’t move, my computer froze up. All I could see was a naked guy standing with his arms outstretched. It took until 2008 before I had adequate computer equipment to run SL. My account still existed and I began coming to SL to poke around. By chance, I ran into Lexie there. Here’s where “My First Time” begins.
Lexie immediately took me to a show (I can’t remember the venue, but it no longer exists) featuring an artist called Zorch Boomhauer (now known as Jack Kinagree). My first impression was “why did she bring me to hear this guy? He’s got this nasal voice and sounds rough around the edges”. I was not captivated by what I was hearing – it was uncomfortable and unfamiliar – all original material. Suddenly, he performed a song called “The Stubborn Old Man” and I experienced an emotional transformation that can only be compared to that moment of “falling in love”. It was a thunderbolt – that song shot through me like electricity. Suddenly, once I recovered from the emotional shock to my system, my mental channels were opened to listen to his songs more intimately. Next came a song called “Da Troof”…..a clever pseudo-comical poke at musicians in general. I was amused and entertained. Next came an absolute masterpiece called “The Harper Dongal”. Whatever was happening, it hadn’t happened to me for a long, long time. I remembered hearing Beatles for the first time. I remembered hearing Yes for the first time. The material was THAT strong. Finally, Zorch closed with “Dance On the Edge of a Sword” and I was hooked for life. What I had initially interpreted as a nasal delivery and “rough around the edges” turned into a Dylanesque view of the world that still makes me dizzy when I think about it.
That day – “My First Time” – I discovered one of the most meaningful songwriters I’ve ever known. Had it not been for Lexie & Second Life I’d have never known Zorch’s music. Later, “Zorch” (Jack Kinagree) became an important friend and trusted mentor. More than all that, he has been an inspiration. He helped me get my start in SL as a performer in my own right. Like an elder brother he has given me insight for which I shall be forever grateful. Please do yourselves a favor and peek in on Jack Kinagree in SL – solo or with he & Lexie’s group project Kinagree-Smith. If you listen closely enough – with open heart & mind – you may be subject to my fate – an incurable Zorch-a-holic for life!
Best Always,
Vinnie (Acoustic Rhapsody)
p.s. – Thanks to Ty for inspiring me to remember this remarkable experience.
***************
If that does not make you remember how awesome the power of music is, then you must not have a soul and I am not sure we can be friends! Thank you, Vinnie, for sharing your wonderful trip down memory lane with us!
~Ty

Christmas in July!

xmasjuly_015

Christmas came early to After Dark Lounge in the first of what will be a silly, awesome, all around good time series of theme nights! Sassy Nitely kicked off the night and not only brought the Christmas spirit but also a set of sexy backup dancers.

xmasinjuly_004

Frets Nirvana continued the night starting his set with a stunningly gorgeous version of Carol of the Bells that kept the festive mood going.

xmasinjuly_006

Rapsbury Rearwin brought the scrooge to the party, but also brought some sweet tunes so we forgive him for his lack of Christmas spirit. xmasinjuly_012

Ren and Quai forgot about the theme night, but we got lucky and Ren wore green and has red hair! I kind of think that she pretended to forget!

xmasjuly_004

The music was rounded out by Grif Bamaisin and his Santa thong, That’s right, I said Santa thong! Back up dancing was provided by none other than Meegan and Tyche! xmasjuly_017

Not only was there great music, but there were prizes given away each hour for the best Christmas get up! For your viewing pleasure….more of the awesome that happened that night! xmasinjuly_001 xmasinjuly_002 xmasinjuly_003 xmasinjuly_007 xmasinjuly_008 xmasinjuly_010 xmasjuly_024 xmasjuly_022 xmasjuly_013 xmasjuly_012 xmasjuly_010 xmasjuly_005

Our next theme night will be August 27th and we want you all there dressed as your favorite character from Saturday Night Live! We want Pat, Stuart Smiley, Cone Heads, Landshark! Pick your favorite character, put together a get up and come enjoy the good tunes with us! A prize of 1000L is given out each hour for the best dressed in the theme!

Tell Ty Volume 7!

everyone-seems-normal-until-you-get-to-know-them

You know the drill! I make the three requests and the artists give me their replies. Sometimes they are deep thoughts, sometimes they are silly and sometimes they just leave you scratching your head and saying “Where the heck did they come up with that?!?”. If you do not know the drill or would just like to take a trip down memory lane you can check out the previous volumes of Tell Ty here:

Vinnie SL12B

                                                               The Vinnie Show

First up we have Vinnie of The Vinnie Show. He is one of the newest additions to the regular lineup at After Dark Lounge. Vinnie brings good time and both originals and covers to his sets. We are thrilled to have him joining us at After Dark!

1. Tell me something random.
Dom was walking to the bakery and suddenly a truck came out of nowhere and RANDOM off the street.

2. Tell me something you think I should know about you.
I stopped maturing emotionally and mentally at approx. age 14.

3. Tell me something that not everyone knows about you.
I don’t have a belly button.

I can only assume based on the reply to number 3 that Vinnie was hatched from an egg. Seems logical enough to me!

Phemie Alcott Profile 2

                           Phemie Alcott

Up next we have the lovely and talented Phemie Alcott! Phemie is far from new to the After Dark Lounge lineup, she has been a regular with us for quite a long while! She tickles the ivories with a combination of covers and originals from her EP Raising the Black.

1. Tell me something random.     i really love strawberry shortcake
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you.  that i’m working on another EP i’d like to release next year in 2016!
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you.   I am a cancer survivor! 🙂

I am positive that I am not the only one excited to hear that Phemie is working on another EP!!!!!

Lyndon-city

Rounding out this installment of Tell Ty is Mr. Lyndon Heart. Lyndon has been a staple on the SL music scene for more than a bit, and he has always been willing to stand in at After Dark Lounge no matter how last minute we approached him! Lyndon recently joined out regular schedule and we are loving it!

1. Tell me something random. I love kumquats
2. Tell me something you think I should know about you. I’m afraid of crows
3. Tell me something that not everyone know about you. I have a hit 45 on the interwebs from the 60’s

C’mon, I know you giggled when you read kumquats. Ok, maybe it was just me, but like Vinnie I seemed to have stopped maturing at age 14!

Until next time!

~Tyche

Oh my! It’s July!

Month-Of-July-1                                          Happy July from the After Dark crew!

Now that Canada Day and Independence Day have passed, we can settle into the month! We have some bits of awesomeness in the works at After Dark, and Idle Rogue has some greatness up their sleeves too!

ir

As many of you know, Idle Rogue has kicked off the latest season of Guerilla Burlesque! They have added several new soloists and corps dancers. One of which is our very own Tyche! They have also added additional show time to their schedule! Not only will they be doing the midnight show on Friday night/Saturday morning, they will also be performing on Friday evening at 7pm! No two shows will be the same!

In addition to Guerilla Burlesque starting up, Idle Rogue also has DJ Maeve spinning tunes at The Underground on Wednesday evenings starting at 8pm. Speaking of tunes…..there might just be a special event in the works for the end of the month, but you will just have to keep your eyes and ears open for that!

cropped-website-header1.jpg

The After Dark Lounge has also added some artists to the family of regulars that grace the stage. The Vinnie Show has joined the lineup every other Sunday at the 10pm slot and Lyndon Heart has joined us on the opposite Sundays in the 9pm slot! You can view After Dark Lounge’s complete schedule here.
